Economist Nii Moi Thompson has criticized Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia following remarks that were perceived as a jab at former President John Dramani Mahama.
In a recent speech, Mr Bawumia touted the achievements of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, highlighting progress made in various areas including Zongo development, railways, roads, health and education.
However, he rated widespread digitalization efforts at 70% and said Ghanaians would not choose a candidate who achieved only 20% during his tenure.
Thompson responded to Bawumia’s comments on Twitter: “This man needs to grow up.
“The position he occupies requires a minimum of dignity, which he has not displayed since taking office. He is always making fun of others as if he were on a kindergarten playground. Very unsuitable for Veep. A blinkering disgrace.”
Mr Bawumia, who was speaking at a unity walk titled “It is possible” which was monitored by Ghanaweb and held in Kwahu, touted the achievements of the NPP and extolled the achievements of the NDC.
“In almost every sector, including international reserves, Zongo development, roads, railways, airports, interchanges, schools, hospitals, public libraries, digitization, Ghana Card, mobile money interoperability, digital addresses, e-pharmacies, etc. have achieved better performance.
“These are just some of the things I mentioned. Everyone can attest to the fact that nuclear power plants have been working really hard.
“Still, someone [Mahama] He claims that we should vote for him because he did a good job, but have you ever heard this? You write an exam with someone and you get a 70% score. Imagine that person wants to get 20% and be voted into power.
“What kind of mathematics is this? How do you feel when someone who scores high is rejected? I call this mathematics ‘Eikonfem mathematics’,” he said.
During the reign of President John Mahama, controversy erupted over the disappearance of state-procured guinea fowl locally known as ‘Akonfem’.
Mahama denies the theft, but opponents continue to use the incident to harass him in political campaigns.
This person needs to grow up. The position he holds requires a minimum of dignity, which he has not displayed since taking office. He always teases others as if on the kindergarten playground. Very unsuitable for Veep. Blinking embarrassment.
