IT Horizons and Cisco Meraki executives pose with stakeholders
Ghana is expected to be at the forefront of internet technology in Africa within the next five years.
Chris Larbi, Virtual ESA and West Africa Area Manager of Cisco Meraki, a global cloud-based IT company, hinted that Ghana has what it takes to be a leader in internet technology services in the African region and global scale.
He said despite being “a few years behind” due to socio-economic impacts such as exchange rates and volatility, among others, “I feel Ghana will be at the forefront of Internet technology in the next five to ten years.”
“If you take a look at tourism in Ghana, how it has accelerated since the return year in 2020 and how the internet bandwidth is currently being used in this country, it is scaling and scaling. And I feel we should have the best internet connectivity because all foreigners are coming here as their hub to build across Africa,” he stated.
Mr. Larbi made these remarks at an Accra Information Technology (IT) stakeholder forum organized by IT Horizons and Cisco Meraki, both leading Internet technology service providers.
Mr. Larbi said their activities are heavily focused on new technology development, modernized cloud technology, return on investment for businesses, scalability and automation, and all the other tedious tasks related to technology.
“We didn’t come here today to just sell our product. We are here to outline how we will rebuild Africa. And we will start with Ghana,” he reiterated.
“With our technology in Ghana, we are reshaping the way people do things. So, for example, where previously you had to go to your office to fix any wireless issues, we are able to fix them from the comfort of your own home. What does this mean? It means we enable companies to scale. We’ve done this with so many companies that scaled 500% in less than five years by having our deployments, and through that, we’re able to keep people in jobs.”
“Here in Ghana, he continued, “I see this adoption. Like I said, we’re behind and we need to be able to put ourselves ahead of the curve. And I think Ghana is making adjustments. I mean there’s going to be a number of things happening where Cisco Meraki brings new products and new product portfolios that help not only educate everyone to be able to use the technology, but also allow people to scale and grow as much as possible.”
