From our member associations to leagues and clubs, the European football community can be part of the carbon solution. To ensure our sport is a driving force in climate action and advocacy across the continent, we provide tailored support to our member associations, helping them develop and implement strategies aimed at reducing football’s carbon footprint.
UEFA carbon footprint calculator
In March 2024, we launched the UEFA Carbon Footprint Calculator – an online tool that enables anyone involved in European football to calculate, assess and act on the carbon emissions associated with mobility, purchased goods and services, facilities and logistics.
Based on Greenhouse Gas Protocol Methodology and third-party validated, the calculator is the result of a two-year collaboration with 24 football organizations and external consultants. It is fully aligned with its principles European Union Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
Our aim is to create a single approved means of measuring football’s carbon emissions, offering greater consistency, transparency and comparability of in-game carbon emissions data.
If you would like to use our carbon footprint calculator, please contact carboncalculator@uefa.ch.

We work closely with the European Commission to use the reach and visibility of our competitions to raise public awareness of energy saving and climate action initiatives.
“Football unites our continent and our planet. To continue enjoying the game we love, we need to win the fight against climate change as a team.”
Most recently, we created a joint UEFA-EC TV campaign – #EveryTrickCounts – in which former Ballon d’Or winner Luis Figo, Italy’s Gianluigi Buffon and French duo Delphine and Estelle Cascarino use a range of football tricks to show how simple changes in Our everyday lives can make a big difference in the fight against climate change. The ad was shown at all men’s and women’s club and national team matches.
We encourage everyone involved in European football to support organisations, whether in their local communities or at national level, that are committed to climate action and advocacy.
