The Ministry of Health (MoH) has received 14 of the 182 containers at Tema Port holding essential medicines for antiretrovirals, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria treatments donated by the Global Fund (GF).
Essential supplies, including antiretroviral drugs for HIV patients, were held up at Tema port for almost a year because the government was unable to settle charges to third parties.
The Director-General of the Ministry of Health, Alhaji Hafiz Adamu, said about 168 more containers needed to be removed. These containers cost about GHC17 million to remove and contain non-pharmaceutical items such as bed nets and Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs).
“Today, 14 containers of health goods will be delivered to the warehouse, consisting of 10 containers of malaria RDT, 1 container of malaria syringes and 3 containers of malaria drugs,” he added.
