The 19th edition of the Solheim Cup is set to begin in 150 days and will be held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainsville, Va., from September 13 to 15 this year. The United States will be looking to win their first Cup since 2017 after drawing with Europe at Finca Cortesin in Andalusia, Spain last September, and Europe will be looking to retain the Cup for a fourth straight year, which has never been done in Solheim Cup History.
The 2024 LPGA Tour season has kicked into high gear, and there has been plenty of movement in both the US and European Solheim Cup team rankings as players have moved in and out of the conversation over the past few months.
Over the past 50 days, Alison Lee and Sarah Schmelzel have risen to the occasion, rising from ninth and 15th in the standings on February 26, respectively, to seventh and ninth as of April 15. Additionally, the current Rolex Women’s Golf World Ranking No. 1 Nelly Korda now leads the standings after winning in her last four starts on the LPGA Tour and Blue Bay LPGA winner Bailey Tardy moved up to 14th after becoming a first-time Rolex Winner in the People’s Republic of China.
The final USA team will consist of the top seven players in the standings, the top two players in the Rolex rankings who have not already qualified, and three captain options selected by Captain Stacy Lewis. As of the Rolex rankings on April 15, Rose Zhang (No. 21) and Lexi Thompson (No. 35) will fill the two spots based on the world rankings.
