North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has responded to the apology made by Johnny Beresford-Hughes after the latter claimed he had benefited from a government scholarship.
In a tweet on April 14, 2024, the lawmaker said: “This apology is formally acknowledged. I have never applied for any government scholarships and do not intend to apply for or benefit from them in the future.”

Johnny Hughes, a broadcast journalist at Media General, said some of the people whose names appeared in the document he shared via social media said the people listed were beneficiaries of the GNPC Foundation’s foreign scholarship scheme. He claimed that he was a person and apologized.
Amid the uproar over the awarding of scholarships by the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat to government and New Patriotic Party officials, Johnny Hughes on Saturday, April 13, 2024, shared a photo with the names of key members of the Peoples Democratic Party. . Among them are the names of Samuel Okuzeto Ablakwa, John Jinapole, Joyce Bawa Mogutari and Felix Kwaki Ofosu.
The journalist’s announcement through his social media pages prompted a series of denials from all of the above-mentioned individuals, with Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa hinting at possible legal action.
As a result, Johnny Hughes apologized to those named on the list, explaining that he was not accusing anyone of wrongdoing by sharing the document.
