Ghana can become a technology-driven and digital economy in the next five years if the right investments are made in the sector, Cisco Meraki West Africa Area Manager, Mr Chris Larbi, has said.
“We’re a few years behind and that’s just because of the socio-economic impact we’ve had, but I think Ghana will be at the forefront of Internet technology in the next five to ten years in Africa,” he said. .
Mr. Larbi made the call during his presentation at a stakeholder engagement meeting held in Accra on Thursday.
The meeting held in partnership with IT Horizons was themed: “Maximizing Business Growth: Unleashing the Power of Cloud Platforms for Profitable Scaling.”
He noted that the meeting was held to engage stakeholders on how to rebuild Ghana’s technology by developing new technologies and modernizing cloud technologies for return on investment.
“We are here today not to sell our products, however, we are also here to outline how we are going to rebuild Africa and we are starting with Ghana,” Mr Larbi said.
He noted that the country needs the best internet connection to meet the demand of its citizens and the larger number of foreigners who visited the country due to the “Beyond the Year of Returns” project.
He said the technology is helping to reshape the way things are done so that people, for example, can now easily fix wireless problems from the comfort of their homes, when previously they had to go to the office
“It means we allow companies to scale. Similarly, we have done with so many companies that have scored 500 percent in less than five years. With our growth, we can keep people in jobs,” Mr Larbi said.
On Artificial Intelligence (AI), he said it is important for businesses to embrace it as it could help them perform their tasks effectively in the future, adding that Meraki is already integrating AI into its platforms to facilitate work processes. procedures.
The CEO of IT HORIZONS, Mr. Olusegun Enitan Dada, an African has commended the innovative digital transformation solutions currently being implemented by the Government of Ghana.
He noted that the Smart City project and other measures such as the centralization of the entire database system to ensure that every Ghanaian can be identified by a location may help the country’s development.
Mr. Dada said Africa has huge potential including Ghana and IT Horozons was trying to tap into it.
“And you can also see that even from the various digital applications that have come out every now and then it helps to make things easier and better,” he noted.
