President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
Some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have slammed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his intention to change the name of the AMERI power plant to Kumasi Power Plant.
This follows an advertisement by the Volta River Authority indicating that the African and Middle East Resources Investment Group Factory (AMERI Factory), relocated to Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, will be commissioned by President Akufo-Addo on April 17, 2024. It is something. The new name is Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant (K1TPP).
Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Alma-Kofi Boua said in a post shared on X that the renaming of the AMERI factory was shameless.
He pointed out that the renaming of the power plant was a classic example of President Akufo-Addo changing the names of projects initiated by other governments to make his administration look good.
“The recent actions of the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia governments in the energy sector are typical of their deception and lack of originality.
“By shamelessly renaming the AMERI Power Plant as Kumasi-1 Thermal Power Plant, they are trying to cover up their incompetence and lack of real progress under the guise of false achievements.
“This blatant move to rename existing infrastructure to praise the efforts of our predecessors not only lacks integrity, it is an insult to the intelligence of Ghanaians,” he wrote.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Elembele, Alma Kofi Buah, also said the AMERI power plant was introduced by the John Dramani Mahama government to stem the country’s long-standing intermittent power supply crisis (Dumsor). He said it was something.
“Under the visionary leadership of John Dramani Mahama, Ameri Power Plant was strategically deployed to combat the debilitating power crisis known as “Damsoul”. These power plants were capable of generating 25 megawatts of electricity each and served as a critical lifeline for the nation in dire situations,” he added.
The lawmaker continued: “Rather than acknowledging the foresight and proactive steps taken by the previous government, Akufo-Addo and Bawumia at the time discredited Mahama’s efforts for their own political gain. , chose to defame and undermine it.”
John Abdullahi Jinapole, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee and Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusogu Constituency, also said that renaming the factory by Akufo-Addo was inconceivable.
He said the President had taken the “unthinkable step of rebranding the Ameri Power Plant, procured under the able leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama, with a new name, Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant (K1TPP)”. “I did it,” he said.
“It’s all a desperate attempt to deceive Ghanaians,” the lawmaker was quoted as saying by 3news.com.
Former Deputy Minister of Communications, Felix Kwaki Ofosu, also in a post shared on The president said he wanted the name changed. It’s one of his projects.
“After telling outrageous lies about the 250MW AMERI power plant procured and installed by the Mahama government in 2015, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has ordered six of the ten turbines to be built in the Ashanti region at a cost of $40 million. We are planning to move to Anwomaso and call it by a different name,” he wrote.
