Since its inception in 2021, the Green Ghana Day initiative has achieved remarkable success, with 42 million trees planted across the country, as announced by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor.
The initiative, which aims to promote a greener environment, is gaining significant momentum and will add millions more trees to this year’s Green Ghana Day, scheduled for June 7th. There are plans to do so.
Speaking at the 2024 Green Ghana Day launch event in Tamale on Tuesday, April 16, Minister Jinapole stressed the importance of collective efforts to ensure the success of this initiative.
Rep. Damongo called on all citizens to actively participate in tree-planting activities to further advance environmental conservation efforts.
With an ambitious goal of planting 10 million more trees this year, Mr. Ginapol emphasized the importance of public engagement and cooperation in achieving this goal.
The Minister highlighted that each tree planted can have a transformative impact on mitigating climate change and enhancing biodiversity.
“We are pleased and proud to report that in the past three years since the implementation of this policy, approximately 42 million trees have been planted both within and outside protected areas across the country, consistently exceeding our annual target. These have been verified by independent audits.
“This is truly impressive. I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the President of the Republic, to thank all Ghanaians and all Ghanaian residents who have supported us over the years in achieving this feat. I would like to thank everyone.”
