Liverpool have been dealt a blow ahead of the Merseyside derby with Diogo Jota ruled out for two weeks with injury.
Jota has just returned from a two-month lay-off, making his first start since February against Fulham on Sunday and scoring in a 3-1 win.
“Diogo scored the goal, he felt a bit and now we know it’s a bit more,” Jurgen Klopp said. official website of the club in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Everton. “So he will be out for two weeks.
“I can’t really say much about it, to be honest. Before [a recent] game where he didn’t start, took a hit – normal challenge, then felt a bit in the hip. Then it was okay because we didn’t start him, we brought him in, it was okay.
“Then he started the last game, he was obviously OK and then with the goal… it’s small but we’re late in the season so obviously now is not a very good time for any injury.
“It’s not big. When I say two weeks, it’s actually almost nothing but enough to make it unavailable.”
If Jota is indeed out of action for the next two weeks then he looks set to miss Saturday’s trip to West Ham United and a home clash with Tottenham next weekend.
It’s a blow for Liverpool because no Premier League player has scored at a faster rate in all competitions this season when penalties are taken out of the equation.
His 15 goals have been scored at an average of one every 114 minutes.
