JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, 24 April 2024 – Supporting President Biden’s Digital Transformation Initiative with Africa and building on the US Department of Commerce’s pan-Africa strategy, NBA Africa announced the launch of “Triple-Double: NBA Africa Startup Accelerator”, a continent-based startup accelerator focused on early-stage African startups.

Triple-Double: NBA Africa Startup Accelerator will support Africa’s tech ecosystem and the next generation of African tech entrepreneurs by providing them with access to mentoring and capital that will help grow the sports and creative industries.
Operates from ALX Venturesa leading technology incubator that provides the continent’s technology leaders with access to the skills and tools to launch and scale their startups, the Triple-Double: NBA Africa Startup Accelerator is open to startups in Africa developing solutions to event management and ticketing, new development, AI, and digital marketing in the sports and creative industry.
Startups can apply to join TripleDoubleAccelerator.NBA.com through Friday, May 31after which submissions will be limited to the top 10.
Selected launches
The 10 selected startups will then be paired with mentors consisting of NBA Africa and ALX leadership, as well as other corporate stakeholders, who will guide the companies with a focus on product development, business development and promotion strategy of the market.
In September, NBA Africa will hold a demonstration day in New York to coincide with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Participating companies will present their products to a panel of top industry leaders from the US, Africa and around the world.
The table will then determine the four winning companieswhich will receive financial support, guidance and the opportunity to collaborate NBA Africa and Basketball Africa League (BAL) about their current and future initiatives on the continent.

The announcement was made today by the CEO of NBA Africa Claire Akamantziwho was joined by the US Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo and Director of the US Trade and Development Organization Enoh T. Ebong at the American Chamber of Commerce Business Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.
