A total of 11,142 commercial sex workers and drug addicts are believed to have been reformed by Pentecostal churches under the Home and Urban Mission (HUM) project in 2023.
This figure includes 1,069 commercial sex workers and 10,073 drug addicts.
HUM is a church ministry dedicated to reaching all marginalized and unreached groups with the Gospel.
Pentecostal Church Apostolic President Eric Nyamekye, who delivered the State of the Union Address, said that 38,102 outreaches were carried out and 43,308 souls were won through home and urban missions in the year under review. .
“The souls won included 1,069 commercial sex workers, 2,584 street people, 10,073 drug addicts, 15,877 northerners from the south, 1,777 African immigrants, 272 foreigners, 836 Fulanis, and 163 Kotokori. and 4,366 others,” Apostle Eric Nyamekye said.
As of December 2023, the total number of members of the Pentecostal Church in Ghana alone was 3,864,355, representing an increase of 7.4% on the previous figure, and the number of members worldwide reached 4,534,644.
Beyond spiritual activities, the church has had a profound impact on education, health, and economic advancement.
Various districts, regions and ministries in Ghana, in collaboration with the church headquarters, spent GHS 14,281,540.13 to sponsor educational activities for church members at different levels.
There are a total of 103 basic schools, two high schools and two vocational training institutes with a total student population of 35,468 and a staff of 2,184, operating nationwide under the umbrella of the Church.
During the year, four new health facilities are under construction and in various stages of completion.
These facilities are located in Tessie Praso and Ohene Nkwanta in the Konongo region, Kumbangre in the Volga region and Asuaday in the Abuakwa region.
A newly built community clinic in Abesiwa was commissioned, bringing the total number of health facilities built by the church to 11.
The church also spent more than 7 million cedis on health support for its members.
According to Apostle Nyamekye, the interventions covering different socio-economic areas of life included the construction and commissioning of an ultra-modern pediatric ward at the Cade Government Hospital, which cost 370,642.55 francs.
Cumulatively, over the past five years (2019-2023), Pentecostal churches have also provided 193 water stations to underprivileged communities (towns and villages), institutions (schools, prisons, police stations, health facilities) and missionary facilities in Ghana. provided. . These facilities serve over 100,000 people.
For employment and economic growth, the church established a coconut oil factory in 2023 at the Adansi Atwereboa community in the Adansi area of Asin Foso district in the Central Region at a cost of GH¢95,000.
