The University of Ghana The Stadium, which recently hosted the prestigious 13th African Games, is tipped to host the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup final, indicating that it is the perfect ground to host this year’s Cup final in style.
The decision to consider the newly built 11,000 capacity stadium as the best venue for the final was revealed by Mr Wilson Arthur, the Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee. Mr. Wilson Arthur explained the process of how the semi-finals and the final will be played. He said all semi-final matches will be played at WAFA Park in Sogakope.
In an interview with Akoma FM, Mr. Wilson Arthur described that the initial decision was to host both the final and semi-final at the newly built Tarkwa TNA Stadium and Legon Stadium, but plans to get the TNA Stadium in shape to prepare for it. the semi-finals did not take place early.
βAfter further discussions, we have changed our original plan to hold the semi-final and final at the newly constructed Tarkwa TNA Stadium and Legon Stadium, respectively. However, TNA Stadium wasn’t ready.
We thought about going to Samreboi, but after some deliberation, we decided to go to Volta [region] would be more useful, so we went back to our backup plan, which was Sogakope,β Mr Wilson Arthur said.
He also stated that if both the semi-final and the final could be held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, it would be good to go ahead, but the University of Ghana Sports Stadium has only a chance of hosting the final this year.
βWe would like to select this position for the semi-final and final rounds of the competition thereafter, pending the approval of the ExCco,β he added.
Nsoatreman FC will challenge Legon Cities on Saturday, May 11, 2024, while Bofoakwa Tano will meet Dreams FC on Sunday, May 12, 2024 for a place in the final.
