The Electoral Commission (EC) denied the significance of errors found in a recent publication on registration numbers.
Earlier Monday, the commission announced revisions to certain numbers released in an update on the ongoing limited voter registration drive.
The move came after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) pointed out inaccuracies in data previously released.
However, in a press conference on Monday, May 13, Deputy Electoral Commissioner Dr. Bosman Asare clarified that while these errors were acknowledged, they did not compromise the integrity of the data.
“We have taken the necessary steps to ensure that something like this never happens again. If you look at the actual numbers, there is a map of Ghana and a bar graph, and all the numbers on the bar graph are correct…The actual numbers are We know we’re right, but we don’t see this as something serious that people should take issue with because of the segregation of the various districts. We think everything should be fine.”
He also provided a breakdown of the figures for different regions on the sixth day of registration.
“At the end of the sixth day of the registration exercise, the figures for each region are as follows: 33,899 (13.5%) in Accra Metropolitan Area, 6,928 (2.8%) in North East Region and 10,646 (2.8%) in Upper East Region. 4.2%), 19,491 (7.8%) in the northern region and 8,972 (3.6%) in the Bono region.
The remaining 9,681 people, 3.9%, were from the eastern Bono region. Volta 12, 190, 4.9%. Upper West 8,74 corresponds to 3.4%. East 25, 625, equivalent to 10.2%. Central 27, 984, 11.1%. Ahafo6, 273, 2.4%. Ashanti Region 44,232, 17.6%. Western North 9,134, 3.3%. Oti 7,259 2.9%. Savannah 5, 261, 2.1%. Westerners 15,100, 6.0%. The national total is 251,149. ”
