The curfew imposed on Alawanyo and Nkonya townships and surrounding areas in Oti Region has been renewed.
Interior Minister Henry Quartey updated this curfew in an administrative document.
The curfew will be from 6pm to 6am and will take effect from Sunday, May 12, 2024.
The curfew was first imposed on Sunday, June 18, 2023, by then Interior Minister Ambrose Derry following a resurgence of deadly clashes between the two communities.
“The government continues to express its gratitude to local chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people for their efforts in ensuring peace and urges them to utilize established mechanisms to resolve all disputes and disputes. ” said the announcement. Regarding curfew updates.
The statement also reiterated that all individuals in the two towns and surrounding areas are prohibited from carrying weapons, ammunition or any offensive weapons.
Anyone found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted, the statement said.

The Minister of Interior has, by administrative document, extended the curfew hours imposed in Alavanyo and Nkonya townships and surrounding areas in Oti region from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am from Sunday, May 12, 2024 .
The Government continues to express its appreciation for the efforts of local chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people in ensuring peace in the region, and leverages established mechanisms for the resolution of all disputes and disputes. I am asking you to do so.
Meanwhile, the government has banned all persons in and around the two towns from carrying arms, ammunition or any other offensive weapon, and if they are found in possession of weapons or ammunition. I would like to reiterate that these individuals will be arrested and prosecuted.
