Ghanaian DJ and musician DJ Azonto has sued Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for $10 million for using his hit song Fa No Fom without permission.

In a statement signed by their PR manager Sammy Anim, DJ Azonto’s management noted that they were disappointed that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia used Fa No Fom in his presidential campaign in the North East region, Nalerigu.

DJ Azonto’s management, Rolls Royce Family, noted that the suit came over a viral video of Dr Bawumia dancing to the hit song on a platform.
“This unauthorized use of our artist’s property for campaign purposes is unacceptable and a clear violation of copyright. As the rightful stewards of DJ Azonto’s work, we have neither been approached for permission nor have we approved the use of ‘Fa No Fom’ on Any capacity associated with the Vice President’s campaign This action ignores the body of creative rights and also, the efforts of DJ Azonto and the management of the Rolls Royce family.
Justifying their demand for $10 million in damages, DJ Azonto’s management said the amount reflected the value of the project and the damages caused to the artist and management due to its misuse in such a high-profile campaign.

“We urge the campaign team of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to immediately address this issue and take steps to prevent such lapses in the future. We also demand a fair and timely settlement from the team of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to resolve the non authorized use of DJ Azonto’s song in a manner that protects and respects the country’s intellectual property rights.’
