Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has claimed that around 20 alleged pro-government agents have been arrested for disrupting the ongoing limited voter registration drive. There is.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on May 16, 2024, the Ghana Police Service’s Anti-Armed Robbery Unit said it had made an arrest in the Okaikwei North constituency in the Accra metropolitan area.
He called those arrested “armed bandits” and noted that they were found in possession of “live ammunition, daggers and other weapons.”
Gyamfi said the individuals were arrested while smoking marijuana in public behind the district courthouse near the voter registration center.
He further claimed that the same group had earlier attacked the office of NDC MP Teresa Lardi Awuni, injuring several people.
Mr Gyamfi also claimed that the NDC had received information suggesting that New Patriotic Party (NPP) leaders were trying to secure the release of the suspects.
He said the NDC would closely monitor the situation.
“Sources in the Police Area Command have indicated that some nuclear power plant executives are trying to secure bail for these hoodlums at the police station,” Gyamfi added.
Police have not released a statement regarding the incident at this time.
Early this morning, about 20 armed robbers affiliated with the ruling NPP were arrested by the Anti-Robbery Squad of the Ghana Police Service at a registration center in the Okoikoi North constituency.
