Joanna Gyan, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Amenfi Central Constituency
In Ghana, there is a perception that many people go into politics because it is the easiest way to accumulate wealth, a perception that is often reinforced by the dramatic changes in lifestyles that politicians, including members of parliament, undergo once they come to power.
However, some Ghanaian politicians were already wealthy before they even entered politics.
One such politician is Joana Gyan, the newly elected National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate in the Amenfi Central constituency.
Joanna Gyan is the Chief Executive Officer of gold dealership Golden Empire Legacy Limited. She is also the founder and CEO of Gem Multimedia Ghana Limited.
In 2022, she received the 2021 Best Female Mine Worker award from Forbes magazine.
She also received the FIN Gold Woman of the Year award and the FIN Woman Executive Visionary of the Year award that same year.
Joanna Gann says her main motivation for going into politics wasn’t money, but the desire to make a difference in her community.
In a 2020 interview with “The Delay Show,” Gann revealed that he makes $700 million a year through a gold export business he owns.
“I earn about $700 million every year, about $65 million a month. My company exports gold. When I started, I earned about $200,000 to $1 million,” she said in Twi when asked about her net worth.
“I have both small and large scale gold export licences and I also run a company involved in mining,” she added.
The businessman and entrepreneur is married to Ghanaian musician Andrew Kofi Cudjoe, a member of the Keche group.
Joanna Gyan is 38 years old and hails from Dankwa Offin in the Central Region.
