The draw for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Colombia 2024™ will take place in Bogotá on Wednesday 5 June and may follow live on FIFA+.
The event will take place at Hall 74 Centro de Eventos in the Colombian capital and will start at 10:00 local time. The draw will determine the group stage matches and subsequent paths to the 11th edition of the tournament, the first to feature 24 teams, up from 16 in previous tournaments.
RCN’s Andrea Guerrero and Caracol Network’s Marina Granziera will be the presenters, while the draw will be hosted by Jaime Yarza, FIFA’s Director of Tournaments.
Yarza will be assisted by two women’s soccer greats, former US international Lindsay Tarpley and Colombia’s Natalia Gaitan. Tarpley captained and scored the trophy for the USA at the 2002 FIFA U-19 Women’s World Cup, the first youth women’s tournament organized by FIFA, which is now considered the inaugural edition of the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Cup 20™.
Gaitan, who still plays, is an icon of the women’s game in Colombia. In addition to representing her country at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany, she played in two editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ and two Olympic Women’s Soccer Tournaments, serving as team captain on each occasion.
This will be the third FIFA tournament to be held in the South American country following the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup™ and the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup™. Additionally, it will be the second edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup held in the CONMEBOL region, after Chile hosted the event in 2008.
