Ghanaian businessman Nick Kofi Adjei Danso Abeem
Did you know that Ghanaian business tycoon Nick Kofi Adjei Danso Abeem, who was named Ghana’s richest person in 2023, comes from a family with 100 children?
Nick Abeam is the CEO of the Nick Group of Companies, which includes Ghana Link, Royal Nick Hotels chain, Royal Light chain, Nick TC Scan (Ghana and Sierra Leone), Alic Inspection Company, Export Gold Ethanol Inspection Company, Global Export Company of Guinea Bissau, Misyl Energy BDC, Nick Petroleum and many more.
In an interview with Kofi TV in 2023, the business tycoon revealed that his father had 14 wives and 100 children.
He said he was the third child of his late mother, Abena Atia, who was his father’s last wife.
“My father had many wives and my mother was his last, 14th wife. He was the chief of the Brady tribe and had 100 children. I am my mother’s third child,” he explained.
Nick Abeam also said that moving to Spain has broadened his business outlook.
After more than a decade in Spain, he returned to Ghana and set up businesses including Nick and Slogan, the first company to import Ford tyres, kitchen cabinets and building materials into Ghana.
“I was 17 when my uncle took me to Spain. I worked there and then brought some businesses to Ghana. One of the first businesses I ran was Nick and Slogan on Spintex Road. Slogan was a white man and I was Nick. We started importing Ford tyres, kitchen cabinets and so on to Ghana,” he recalled.
He noted that these early ventures have blossomed into multiple businesses not only in Ghana but also in other African countries.
“In 2000, after a successful career in Spain, I decided to return home and started with Nick Hotels and expanded to Nick and Slogan, as well as other ventures in Ghana and across Africa.
“After Nick and Slogan, I founded Ghana Link, which led to Nick Scan, which then led to Misir (Energy BDC), which then led to Nick Petroleum and by God’s blessing, many more businesses,” he elaborated.
