Chairman, Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Hackman Owusu Agyemang, has appealed to stakeholders to be patient and allow the party’s Leader, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to nominate his running mate at his own time.
Speaking in an interview on Aasars Breakfast Show, Owusu-Agyemang stressed that consultations are ongoing and assured the party that Dr Bawumia would ultimately make the choice that is best for Ghana.
He stressed that despite not announcing a running mate, Dr Bawumia is immensely popular, stressing that the overwhelming support the presidential candidate received during the recent election campaign, especially in the Ashanti Region, is testament to Dr Bawumia’s strong position and influence within the party and across the country.
Owusu-Agyemang highlighted the differences between the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), criticising the NDC for prioritising the weakening of state institutions over presenting a constructive agenda.
He highlighted the good track record of the NPP, citing tangible achievements such as substantial infrastructure development, successful maintenance of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and implementation of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy.
According to him, these achievements have provided the NPP with a strong and credible message to convey to the electorate and urged party members to improve their communication strategies to effectively communicate the successes of their government and ensure that their grassroots supporters are well informed about the improving economic situation and other positive developments.
He stressed the importance of focusing on promoting the achievements of the NPP rather than pressuring the presidential aspirant to prematurely announce his running mate.
That approach, he argued, is crucial to maintaining the party’s momentum and unity and focusing on its core message and goals in the run-up to the elections.
The Chairman, Council of Elders, expressed confidence in the party’s continued support and united front and assured that the NPP would ensure victory in the next elections.
