A dump truck driver was killed and two others sustained serious injuries in an accident which occurred at Crispol Municipality Junction, Kasoa, Central Region, on Friday.
The driver fell under the car and was run over by the tire, dying instantly.
Two others in the truck with him were also seriously injured and rushed to hospital.
The bodies of the deceased were deposited in the morgue.
Witnesses said the driver had failed to lower the truck’s tipper truck to a safe location after spreading sand on a nearby gas station.
This caused the dump truck to suddenly lift up and crash into the overpass at Crispol City Junction.
The cabin of the truck, registration number GN 7842-21, was destroyed and the driver and two assistants were thrown overboard.
“A vehicle heading towards Budumbrum camp did not notice the tipper truck being lifted. Suddenly, it heard a loud noise next to the bridge in Krispol city. The driver was crushed under his vehicle, which broke through the windscreen, and was then run over by a truck.”
“The driver’s two colleagues suffered the same fate. He had come to a nearby petrol station to dump some sand when the accident suddenly happened,” eyewitness Katu Dennis told Channel One News.
Meanwhile, unknown individuals entered the scene and stole an unknown amount of cash and a smartphone from the accident victim.
Some witnesses expressed disgust at the act.
