Hon. Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, Minister of Health, has embarked on a four-day working visit to the Ashanti Region.
As part of the tour, he will visit regional and district health facilities in the Ashanti region to enable him see all the projects yet to be completed and an opportunity to interact with staff and gain first-hand information about the sector of health in the region for policy direction.
Hon. The first visit of Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye was in the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah. Welcoming the Minister, Mr. Osei-Mensah expressed appreciation for his efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the country.
The regional minister took over the Hon. Okoe Boye through some health facilities that are yet to be completed and further listed some challenges facing health care delivery in the District which included unavailability of health facilities in some degraded areas, lack of basic health care equipment.
Hon. Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, conducted an inspection tour of the new 250 bed capacity Ashanti Regional Hospital located at Sewua in Bosomtwe District. The modern health building is ready to operate with integrated physical construction.
Ashanti Regional Hospital promises to be a state-of-the-art facility, with an array of medical amenities. It is equipped with gynecological wards, an intensive care unit, operating theatres, delivery suites, a sterilization department and a medical gas unit capable of producing necessary medical gases.
“We are giving a timeline, by September 2024, this facility will be ready to go into operation,” he said.
Dr. Boye also visited the Bekwai Municipal Hospital, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving health services and health infrastructure across the region.
The Medical Superintendent of the facility, Dr. Med. Ebenezer Osei Akoto, who welcomed the Minister, expressed his appreciation for the visit and cited some challenges encountered in the facilities such as low power supply and frequent pipeline bursts.
The Honorable Minister and his delegation then visited and interacted with the staff of the Bekwai Municipal Hospital to note some challenges they face at the facility.
Hon. Okeo Boye assured the staff of Bekwai Municipal Hospital that their concerns were heard and will be addressed by the management of the Ministry and urged them to do what is expected of them to improve healthcare delivery in the country.
