The Ghana Health Service (GHS), in collaboration with its development partners, officially launched the 2nd edition of the GHS Excellence Awards in Accra. The media launch, which marks the start of the nomination process, aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding performance and achievement in healthcare for the year 2023. This year’s theme, ‘Sustaining Partnerships for Efficient and Effective Delivery health care”, underlines the importance of cooperation to strengthen health services.
Ms. Araba Kudiabor, Director of the SSDM Department and Chair of the Awards Committee, announced significant improvements to the nomination process, including a digitized system to simplify and streamline nominations and evaluations. He encouraged the active involvement of management and staff, highlighting the restructuring of assessment criteria based on feedback from the inaugural awards in 2023.
The General Director of GHS, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, highlighted the role of the awards in enhancing national pride, professionalism and improving customer care in healthcare facilities. The awards will include three main categories: Individual Staff Awards, Institutional and Leadership Awards and Special Awards, which will be presented at regional, regional and national levels. This year, GHS aims to recognize 2,578 individuals and institutions for their outstanding contributions.
Nominations opened on Monday, July 1, 2024 and will close on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Dr. Kuma-Aboagye urged all health workers and institutions to actively participate in the process, seizing the opportunity to be recognized for their commitment to quality healthcare delivery.
Dr. Sefah Sarpong Bediakoh, Chairman of the GHS Council, lauded the commitment of health workers across the country, noting their outstanding service in both urban and rural areas. He emphasized that recognition of their efforts will motivate continued excellence and contribute to improved health care outcomes and socio-economic development.
The Grand Awards ceremony, scheduled for October 2024, will honor many individuals and institutions at various levels of service. This includes 2,372 awards at the district level, 280 at the regional level and 25 at the national level, celebrating outstanding general staff, institutional and leadership excellence and special achievements.
