A recent poll conducted by Global Info Analytics has revealed that the Leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, enjoys strong support among first-time voters.
Pollsters say the trend signals a shift in sentiment, especially among younger voters, as the 2024 election approaches.
Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Musa Dankwa, in a media interview revealed that the study polled over 7,000 respondents and found that a majority of young people view Dr Bawumia as the most suitable candidate to lead Ghana.
Musa Dankwa noted that the NPP leader’s recent national election campaign has not only galvanised the party but also played a key role in boosting his own popularity.
He also stressed that first-time voters will be a decisive factor in the general election scheduled for December.
“A closer look at the poll numbers shows that Bawumia’s rise in popularity is mainly due to first-time voters. In an April poll, [Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia] He lost by a significant margin, but at present he is neck and neck with Mahama in terms of first-time voters.
“He took the numbers from there and they’re now at 44 percent each, so this election is going to be about the vote of young voters. Whoever can win the hearts and minds of first-time voters is going to win this election.”
