The Ghana Education Service (GES) has rolled out a self-placement system for 12,720 new teachers who have completed their degree programmes in universities of education and passed the licensure examination.
Following a call for recruitment by the GES on May 11, 2024, over 20,000 applications were received from qualified teachers with 12,720 successful applicants in the first batch.
These individuals will be required to access the Ghana Education Service Portal between July 5 and July 31, 2024, and complete the Self-Placement Exercise.
Speaking at a press conference at the Ghana Education Service Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, July 4, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Mr Eric Nkansah, explained that the self-placement scheme is aimed at addressing various challenges faced by teachers, including language barriers and financial hardships.
“The open recruitment model has the advantage of placing newly trained teachers in areas where language is not a barrier. Thus, teachers can speak the local language wherever they choose, which has been found to create a highly effective teaching and learning environment,” he said.
“These individuals will be required to access the Ghana Education Service Portal between July 5th and July 31st, 2024 and complete a self-placement exercise. Furthermore, teachers will be able to choose schools close to their families and will subsequently be eligible for financial support.”
“The steps you need to take to access the platform and select your preferred school will be displayed once you access the same GES promotional platform that you used to apply,” he said.
