Accompanied by the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, National Organising Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye and some NPP Parliamentary Aspirants in Wassa Region, the Vice Presidential candidate of the NPP Flagbearer, Dr Matthew Opoku Preme, paid a visit on the Chairman of the Western Regional Council of Chiefs, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekim II, at Omanhene in the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area today, Wednesday, July 10, in the early hours of the morning.
He said the visit was part of efforts to intensify the quest for new partnership between traditional rulers and politicians as articulated by Presidential candidate Dr Bawumia.
“Encouraged by Mr Tetlete’s wise words, we look forward to engaging all stakeholders in this election campaign. We thank the party leadership in the Western Region and Wassa District Constituency for the warm welcome,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh had earlier said the NPP was targeting 85 percent vote share in the Ashanti Region in this year’s elections.
He said the NPP would be conducting a door-to-door campaign ahead of the general elections.
“We want 85 percent of the votes in the Ashanti Region,” he said while addressing NPP supporters after the party’s inauguration ceremony as leader in Kumasi on Tuesday, July 9.
He further called on supporters of the party and Ghanaians at large to “honour President Akufo-Addo and Mr Bawumia by voting in large numbers to win the 2024 elections and to undertake a door-to-door campaign.”
Meanwhile, the NPP flagbearer, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, has lauded Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as a problem solver, knowledgeable and leading thinker of his generation.
He says he has great respect for Dr Opoku Prempeh.
Speaking to NPP supporters when the Manhyia South MP was announced as the NPP’s running mate in Kumasi on Tuesday, July 9, Dr Bawumia said: “Napo is knowledgeable and I have a lot of respect for him. He is a problem solver and a thinker of his generation.”
“Together we can deliver bold solutions for Ghanaians. Our candidates are filled with some of the greatest thinkers of their generation.”
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that Messrs. Bawumia, Opoku and Prempeh will deliver on the expectations of the Ghanaian people.
President Akufo-Addo, who announced the NPP leadership and running mate candidates at an event at the Manya Palace on Tuesday, July 9, said he has worked with the two and can vouch for their hard work.
“I have confidence in both of them to do the job. I have worked with them and I know they can get it done. I know that once the Ghanaian people give them the mandate on December 7, they will work to live up to the expectations of Ghana,” President Akufo-Addo said.
The NPP National Council unanimously approved the selection of Dr Opuku Prempeh at an emergency meeting in Accra last Thursday, July 4.
Speaking after the event, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh assured NPP members and supporters that he would support Dr Bawumia to pursue a strong 2024 election campaign that would break the eight-year cycle of elections.
He said he understood that the challenges ahead required collective efforts. He further called on all members of the NPP to work together towards achieving their “ambitious goal” of transforming Ghana into a prosperous nation.
