Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as “Napo”, has resigned from his position as Minister of Energy.
The decision comes after he was nominated and confirmed as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate for the 2024 elections to be held in December this year.
His resignation is aimed at allowing him to focus fully on his new role as the party seeks to break an eight-year cycle.
The Presidency, in a statement released on Thursday, July 11 and signed by its Director of Public Relations, Mr Eugene Alhin, said Dr Prempeh’s resignation would take effect from Thursday, July 18.
The statement also said President Akufo-Addo accepted his resignation and thanked him for his commitment and service to the government.
Dr Prempeh’s departure marks a major shift as he will assume a key role in the NPP’s election campaign and underlines his commitment to the party’s future success.
