Accra, July 13, GNA – Some candidates for the recently concluded 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Accra Metropolitan Area have expressed confidence that they will perform well in the examination.
The candidates who narrated their experiences to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said they were able to answer the questions even though some were difficult.
When the GNA visited private schools Odartee Memorial B Centre and Bishop Girls School Centre in the area, the candidates were seen in jubilation after completing their final examinations.
Private Odartee Memorial ‘B’ Centre saw 153 candidates (98 boys and 57 girls) from six schools participate, while Bishop Girls’ School Centre saw 134 candidates (25 boys and 110 girls) from four schools participate.
At both centres, all registered candidates attended the exam throughout the five days without any absences.
Felix Asetena, an aspirant at Independence Avenue 2 Basic School, Bishop Girls Centre, said some subjects were difficult but he was confident of excelling.
He said he faced some difficulties with the math, science and computer tests but was able to answer most of the questions.
Miriam Ankurah, a candidate at Happy Days Academy at Bishop Girls Centre, said she was nervous and shaky at first but felt better after receiving encouraging words from her teachers.
She said she hopes to get good grades to get into her first choice high school.
Mr Stanley Otu, a student at Odartee Memorial Private School, Odartee Memorial B Centre, said none of the exam questions were as difficult as he thought they would be before the exam.
He said he hopes to achieve good grades and go on to the high school of his choice.
Greater Accra Regional Education Commissioner, Stephen Abanfo, said the examinations in the region went smoothly without any “major” issues.
He said the only challenge they observed was a delay of 10 to 15 minutes in the start of the exam at some testing centres on the first day, adding that apart from that delay, everything else went smoothly and was successful.
