The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured that it will promptly respond to a petition submitted to the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) by over 40 constituency women organisers.
The petition alleges misconduct by the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Emmanuel Nii Asi Moore.
According to the party’s deputy secretary-general, Mustapha Gbande, the issues raised would be carefully considered.
Gbande stressed that the party takes these allegations seriously and will not try to sweep them under the rug and will ensure that due process is followed.
The women’s organisers’ petition alleges that Ashley Moore had repeatedly behaved aggressively towards leading women in the party and threatened violence.
The group stressed the urgency of the situation, noting the strategic importance of the Greater Accra Region in the 2024 elections.
He argued that it was important that Athy Moore’s actions were addressed to ensure the party’s women’s wing could carry out their duties with confidence and contribute to the party’s victory in the next election.
Speaking on Citi FM on Thursday, July 18, Gbande maintained that the party had the internal structures to properly address such issues.
He reiterated that the issues raised in the petition would be thoroughly investigated to maintain the party’s unity and cohesion.
“I have no doubt that the current leadership is poised to make the decision to address this issue head on. So if the general secretary is properly briefed, if the FEC is properly briefed, if the leadership is properly briefed, then wherever the axe is laid, the party will lay the axe there, and if it’s an issue that needs to be reconciled, the party will reconcile and we will move forward.”
“…So if there is an internal dispute around the NDC, it is nothing so serious, it is nothing so strange. It will be dealt with in accordance with our laws,” he said.
