National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer John Mahama has taken a break from campaigning to support electric vehicles.
The former president test drove a Wuling electric car and described the experience as exciting.
In a video shared on Facebook, Mahama also reviewed the electric vehicle he drove.
“It’s a good experience, it’s very easy to drive and it will reduce our fuel usage and the foreign exchange we spend to bring in fuel.”

“We should be able to start assembling these vehicles here,” the former President added.
He further described the transition to electric vehicles as a vital step towards a sustainable future.
He also referred to the government granting Barari DV Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Atlantic Lithium Limited, a 15-year mining lease.
The state’s interest in mining activities has increased from 10 percent to 13 percent.
Lithium is one of the main minerals used in production lithium ion batteries in electric cars.
Ghana is seeking to position itself as a player in the production of a key component in electric vehicle batteries.
Ghana discovered large lithium deposits in the Central, Ashanti, Western and Volta regions in 2022.
Bawumia wants electric vehicles for public transport
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said Ghana will soon be the pacesetter in Africa in the use of electric vehicles for public transport services.

He said the move will significantly reduce transportation costs as the main cost component, fuel, will be minimised.
He made the comments when he visited Solar Taxi, a Ghanaian company that assembles electric vehicles.

She was surprised after her son mentioned the price of the vehicle and humorously asked him if he was crazy.
The woman admitted the vehicle was great, but thought it was too expensive for a man her son’s age to buy.
