Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy Secretary-General Koku Anyidoho has questioned former President John Dramani Mahama’s intention to change the names of public universities when he assumes office in 2025.
Mr Anidoho criticized Mr Mahama’s focus on changing the name of the institution, arguing that his presidency should be remembered for creating jobs and promoting a “better Ghana” policy.
In a series of tweets, he expressed dissatisfaction with the idea of the NDC’s 2024 flag bearer to come back to change the name of the university.
“The 24-hour economy should be used for honeymoons and university name changes, not for creating jobs, investing in talent, expanding infrastructure, and governing in an open, honest and transparent manner. .Obviously Opana never believed in Prez Mills’ Better Ghana Agenda. God save Ghana,” he said in one of his tweets.
He suggested that Mr Mahama’s proposal appeared to be a continuation of the political maneuvering that contributed to the country’s slide into mediocrity, which he described as an “endless and monotonous cycle”.
He continued: “How will changing the name of the university solve the unemployment of graduates and change the economic situation in Ghana?”
“Wouldn’t it be a continuation of the endless monotonous cycle of ‘let me’ politics sink the country deeper into the throes of gross mediocrity?” he asked.
He further added, “If you name UHAS the Ata Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences, how will that affect its core mission?Honestly, if I were President Akufo-Addo, Asomdwe After the park is built, it will be named UHAS after Atta Mills University, he added. Let’s see if Opana dares to say she will change that too. ”

Professor John Mahama has declared that if the NDC is inaugurated in 2025, the names of public universities will be restored.
Mr Mahama accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of only changing the names of universities built by the NDC, stressing that the NPP had not established any new universities during its tenure.
Mr Mahama maintained that although administrative buildings, hostels and libraries could be named after individuals, the core name of a public university should reflect its original purpose.
“Then we will restore the original name and the name they gave will be given to the university’s critical infrastructure.
“We’re going to add other people and put their names on the university’s infrastructure. But if that university is a development studies university, that’s its core mission. It’s a development studies university and They will be called,” he said.
How will changing university names solve graduate unemployment and change Ghana’s economic situation? Isn’t it a continuation of the endless monotonous cycle of “let me” politics that sinks the country deeper into the throes of gross mediocrity?

If we name UHAS the Attamils University of Health and Allied Sciences, how will that affect its core mission? Honestly, if I were President Akufo-Addo, after building Asomdwe Park, what would that mean? I’ll name it UHAS after Mills and see if Opana dares to change that too. pic.twitter.com/PGq7ocRjck
