Driving The News
According Mr Francis Asenso Boakye, of the Minister for Works and Housing, the upcoming system will allow tenants, landlords and the RCD to conduct every activity remotely through one portal. He said the portal will be activated in March 2024 after pilot testing.
He also noted that the government is revising the Rent Act, which is currently in Parliament, to respond to the changing dynamics of the rental market.
Because this matters
The RCD has faced a number of challenges in delivering its services to the public, such as long queues, bureaucracy, corruption and inefficiency. The RCD’s digitization process will enable its operations, including interactions with customers for complaints and payment services, to take place electronically.
Digitization is expected to enhance service delivery, curb corruption, enhance transparency and accountability, and improve access to safe, adequate and affordable rental accommodation in Ghana. The system will also allow users to post properties, market them and connect with landlords and potential tenants.
