The Director of Sports at the University of Ghana, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, has expressed his anticipation for the Citi TV National Athletics Championships scheduled from February 24 to 28, 2024.
The five-day event will take place at the renovated University of Ghana Stadium with over 2000 student-athletes from over 40 high schools including St. Thomas Aquinas, Opoku Ware Senior High School and Mawuli Senior High School. is set to participate.
NISAC aims to boost the popularity of athletics and widen the talent pool in the country.
Dr. Bello-Bitugu, in an interview with Citi Sports, endorsed the initiative and advocated its continuation in every season.
“Fantastic idea, great stuff from CITI TV. I hope this is the start of great things to come for our athletes.”
“The shortcomings we have in our sports are that we have not been able to nurture our young talent, we have not worked with the grassroots, the scouting systems have not worked well for young talent.
And I think it is a fantastic idea of CITI TV to partner with Ghana Athletics and promote sports, and I think it should be adopted by others and it will awaken the spirit of athletics.
We will support it. we believe it will go well and I think it will be of immense benefit to Ghanaian athletes and sports.”
Citi TV has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ghana Athletics to promote the competition, which also aims to raise awareness of the 13th African Games to be held in Ghana in March.
The President of Ghana Athletics, Bawa Fuseini, is confident that the University of Ghana, which is undergoing renovation, will be completed in time to host the games on February 24.
Other notable schools set to compete in the NISAC maiden edition from various regions are St. Thomas Aquinas, Odorgonno High School, Tema High School and Ghana High School.
