Calling all clean energy innovators working in Southern and Eastern Africa. EEP Africa invites local companies, startups and social enterprises to apply for their next round of funding.
The Clean Energy Financing Facility invites companies to apply for innovative early-stage clean energy projects in active development. Funding is available in the form of grants and repayable grants between €200,000 and €1 million.
Applicants must demonstrate a clear need and additionality for EEP Africa funding.

EEP Africa (Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund) is hosted and managed by the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) with funding from Austria, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, NDF, Norway and Switzerland.
The Fund provides risk-tolerant early-stage grant funding for local, innovative clean energy projects, technologies and business models in Southern and Eastern Africa.
Private companies, start-ups or social enterprises with early-stage projects in one or more of the EEP Africa target countries are welcome to apply. These are Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
EEP Africa call for details on the proposal
All applications must be registered with legal entities for at least six months prior to the Expression of Interest date.
EEP Africa includes a quick diagnostic tool on its website to check if you are eligible for EEP Africa funding for the 2024 call for proposals.
Candidates can register in any of the counties, but must demonstrate a local commitment. Applications from women entrepreneurs and local organizations are strongly encouraged. Candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria set out in CfP 2024 Implementation Guidelines.
In terms of funding, applicants apply for grants and repayable grants, and the minimum required co-financing is 30% to 50% of the total project budget, depending on the project phase and the maturity of the company.

Where to apply and the application process
The application process takes place in two stages.
First comes the Expression of Interest, followed by a detailed Full Proposal. Once EOIs are submitted, EEP Africa will conduct a virtual boot camp and follow up pitching sessions for shortlisted candidates.
Based on the interviews, candidates are then selected to proceed to the full proposal stage.
Proposals must be submitted through the EEP Africa SmartME online application platform. Proposals sent via email will not be considered.
The Expression of Interest must be completed on the EEP Africa online application platform, which has an online support function. Any queries that cannot be dealt with by the support function should be sent to cfp@eepafrica.org by Friday 8 March 2024.
The application deadline is May 15, 2024, when shortlisted candidates will be notified. Final decisions of the Investment Committee are taken by the end of September and project implementation for selected projects is envisaged between 2025 and 2027 for a maximum period of 24 months.
