Wahu Mobilitya Ghanaian EV bike manufacturing startup Electric Mobility has opened its first local factory for local production of EV bikes.
Valerie LambieCEO of Wahu Mobility, said the company intended to produce 200 electric bikes every month for the domestic and international market, with the possibility of employment more than 3,000 employees towards the end of the year.

Wahu bikes run on two rechargeable batteries and can travel up to 140 kilometers on a single charge.
He said the company would create jobs for the youth in partnership with other stakeholders in the industry.

Ms. Labi said the company will offer a weekly payment schedule, training workshops, insurance and maintenance programs, including real-time monitoring of all vehicles on the road to understand rider behavior and road safety.

“With this we create a digital footprint of what riders earn, how they pay off a fixed asset and how they are dischargedeh,” said Valerie Labi.
Between the lines
At the event, Ms Labi also lobbied the local government to help reduce taxes on imported raw materials and semi-finished components to enable Wahu Mobility to assemble bikes locally.
Ms Labi said that as a producer of electric vehicles, her company was obliged to do so they pay 58% tax on imported parts.
He also said that if a customer wanted a loan from the bank to buy an electric bike he would need it 120% collateral of the amount and be prepared to they pay an interest rate of more than 30%. in the loan.
