Toss New Zealand chose to bowl vs Australia
Boult, batsman Will Young and quick Ben Shears have been named for New Zealand. Experienced seamer Tim Southee has been rested for games two and three ahead of the Test series against Australia, while spinner Ish Sodhi has been ruled out. Rachin Ravindra will miss the game after suffering pain in his left knee after his half-century in the first match.
New Zealand will be hoping that Boult’s presence can help them bounce back and keep the series alive. Boult has not played at the international level since the 2022 World Cup due to his commitments with the T20 franchise.
Australia drew first blood in the Chappell-Hadlee series after Tim David sealed a remarkable 216 with a last-ball boundary. But they will tweak their line-up as Smith replaces rested David Warner at the top of the order, while quick Nathan Ellis has been included and Mitchell Starc given a breather.
Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade comes into the side after paternity leave with all-rounder Matthew Short squeezed out.
After 431 runs scored in the first game of the series, another high-scoring contest approaches in clear conditions at Eden Park which is famous for its short boundaries.
The three-match series is a vital warm-up for both teams as they try to settle the squads for the T20 World Cup in June.
