Dr. Hanna Luisa Bisciu speaking at a stakeholder meeting on February 21, 2024
There was drama at the stakeholder meeting organized by the Ghana Peace Council in the run-up to the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections held in Accra on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
National Women Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Hanna Luisa Bisciu, said that in the context of the upcoming issues, the Peace Council will ensure the spread of peace to stakeholders in the upcoming elections. I couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable when he called out to me. Increased during the 2020 election.
Dr Bisiu said the council remained aloof and did nothing like force the government to ensure those responsible for the assault and killing of at least 18 people during the 2020 elections and the 2019 Ayawaso West Woogon by-election are punished. pointed out that he had done nothing. .
She pointed out that peace cannot be guaranteed unless gangs associated with the government and who attack people unnecessarily are punished.
“…What do you do when the system comes after you? What did you do when I got to the polling place at 4 a.m. and saw these masked Azug guys on the tundra? What do you do when the police come to police? Government-backed vigilante groups carry guns to the hilt, are led by police commanders, beat up members of Congress, and raid candidates’ homes and shoot people to death. What do you do when you do?
“A committee was set up. What was it for? They completed a white paper and submitted it. What was the government’s comment? How do you expect there to be peace in this country? Who was beaten? Who was beaten? How can I tell if I was hit?”
A disgruntled NDC female organizer further added, “People died in the 2020 elections. A 14-year-old girl was shot dead. A man who had just stepped into service as part of his civil responsibility as a citizen of this country was shot dead. “It was done,” he added. “Women were shot, some survived, some didn’t. Young people were killed. What did the peace council do? Did they talk to the president? Did the security people? Me. What do we want to know?”
The women organizers added that the peace council should stop talking about peace until the violence seen in the last election is resolved and the victims receive justice. Because without justice, there can be no peace.
