Vietnamese car manufacturer VinFast Auto has signed a distribution deal with Jospong Group of CompaniesGhana’s leading multi-industry conglomerate, in the Ghanaian and West African market.

This deal marks the Vietnamese electric vehicle pioneer’s initial foray into the African market, cementing its position as a leader in the global shift to sustainable transport.
Under this agreement, Jospong will distribute VinFast’s entire range of vehicles, including electric cars, e-scooters, e-bikes and electric busesthroughout Ghana and West Africa.
Jospong also plans to develop public charging infrastructure across the country to support electric vehicle (EV) penetration.
Digging deeper
Under the MoU, Vingroup and Jospong will work together to identify and pursue business opportunities in areas of mutual interest such as electric vehicles, taxi operations, public transport solutions, education, hospitality, and real estate development.

Because this matters
According to the statement, the electric vehicle market in Ghana and West Africa has significant growth potential due to ample room for growth and minimal competition.
Fueled by government support to achieve net zero emissions in transport, demand is forecast to grow rapidly.
It is noted that Ghana envisages a future by 2040 where a significant proportion of petrol stations will be re-located to serve sustainable transport options such as electric vehicles.
