On March 16, 2024, a bulldozer was sent to the premises of Fantasy Dome, one of Ghana’s largest event centers, located in the heart of Accra.
By the time they left, the 20,000-person building was pulled to the ground, leaving rubble in the vast space that had hosted many popular entertainment shows over the years.
A video published by Ghanaweb showed that buildings adjacent to the venue were not spared from the damage, and rooms housing equipment such as lighting and audio equipment were also negatively affected.
Leslie Quainor, CEO of Fantasy Entertainment, said the demolition was carried out by state security agencies under the direction of the Ghana Trade Fair Company.
His view is supported by an account of events on the pro-government Asase Radio, which reads in part: βSaturday 16 March 2024, Trade Fair Company Limited The Ministry has embarked on a training exercise under the supervision of the Ghana Police Service with the support of the National Security Agency.”The Ministry will remove the “Fantasy Dome” to allow construction work at the trade fair venue to proceed freely.
court injunction
In an interview with YouTube channel Sammy Flex TV, Quainor produced a copy of the court’s January 2024 injunction against the building’s demolition.
βCurrently we have an injunction against the fair and its properties, preventing them from doing exactly this. There are better ways to deal with this, especially when it is in violation of the law. Yes,β he added.
βThe CEO of Fantasy Entertainment stated in an interview with some media outlets on Saturday, March 17, 2024 that he had been served with an injunction, but Trade Fair Company Ltd. I denied it.
“The company states that it has not been served with any court proceedings, nor was it served with an injunction on the day of the demolition,” Asasse’s report states.
Why did the trade fair demolish the structure?
Asaase’s report detailed how the contract between GTFC and Fantasy Entertainment expires in December 2023, and how GTFC needed the space for redevelopment work.
The tenancy agreement between Fantasy Dome owners and Trade Fair Company Limited expired on December 31, 2023. Since then, the management of Trade Fair Company Limited has made every effort to have “Fantasy Entertainment” remove the “Fantasy Dome”. Providing information from the fairgrounds proved futile.
Ironically, for the developer, access to the part of the site where the trade fair venue’s “Fantasy Dome” is located is also essential to the power and water infrastructure for the project and to service the new Ghana International Trade Fair. Essential for constructing drainage systems. center. The report added that the dome has been blocking the progress of these works for about 12 months.
Future method:
Quainor is clearly disappointed in the way things have unfolded, but says he intends to take spiritual and legal steps to seek redress.
“I give everything to God. I know that God will always show us what is right. And I will follow His instructions in this. I have to take pictures. I am legal. choose the appropriate method.β
βGhana is not a lawless country, so I will go to court and get a verdict,β he stressed.
