President Akufo-Addo has appointed Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo as the new Executive Director of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The new head of SSNIT is the son of Yaw Osafo-Maafo, a former minister and current senior adviser to the president.
Mr Osafo-Maafo replaces Dr John Ofori-Tenkoran who has been directed to take over the role by Monday 15 April 2024.
A letter dated April 8, 2024 and signed by Presidential Secretary Nana Bediatuo Asante and addressed to John Ofori-Tenkoran, seen by Graphic Online, read:
“It is mentioned in your appointment letter dated July 1, 2019, issued by the Public Service Commission.
“Pursuant to paragraph 8 of the above appointment letter, I regret to inform you that the President has terminated your appointment effective April 15, 2024, with three months’ salary in lieu of notice.
“You are directed to hand over your office to Mr. Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo and collect the final benefits to which you are entitled.
“In order to ensure a smooth transition, we ask that you take over and cease to hold the position of Executive Director of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) by the close of business on Monday 15 April 2024 at the latest. I will do it.
“The President would like to thank you for your contribution to the nation and wish you all the best,” the letter added.
