West Indies 278 for 6 (Mathews 141, Sandhu 3-54) win Pakistan 190 all out (Muneeba 38, Alleyne 2-10, Matthews 2-26) by 88 runs
He lifted the West Indies to 278 as Pakistan’s bowlers struggled for wickets on a somewhat murky track in Karachi. Pakistan managed little more than a feeble reply, with Muneeba Ali’s 38 the highest score as they were bowled out for a leisurely 190. Matthews ensured her contribution came alive with figures of 2 for 26 in eight overs as an 88-run victory was secured streak.
This was a dead rubber anyway, but there was little danger in the play once Matthews won the toss and elected to aim. The captain led from the front as she put pressure on Pakistan’s bowlers, with the opening attack of Fatima Sana and Nida Dar coming under immediate pressure. First-rounder Nashra Sandhu, the pick of the attack with 3 for 54, provided an early lead but it was little more than a quick knock for an unstoppable West Indies team.
Pakistan’s response saw a bunch of double digits but very little substance. Openers Sadaf Shamas and Sidra Ameen were bowled by Shamilia Conell and Henry, and while Muneeba and Bisah Maroof added 45 for the third wicket, the run-score was simply too loose to trouble the visitors. It took 69 balls to score that 45 before Karishma Ramharack bowled Maroof. Matthews’ double strikes to get rid of captain Nida Dar and top scorer Muneeba Ali killed the game for good.
Aalia Riaz and Fatima Sana put on another partnership but the game had moved on now. The West Indies struck at regular intervals and it was all over in the 48th over when a double from Alleyne ended Pakistan. The two sides will now play a five-match T20I series, with all five games in Karachi.
