The 2024 edition of the Platinum Cup arrives on Saturday, April 27, 2024, with some mouth-watering games lined up in the football competition.
The draw for the corporate games which took place on Thursday 25th April 2024 has produced some interesting matchups with defending champions Stanbic Ghana Limited placed in Group A.
Stanbic Bank is joined in Group A by the National Petroleum Authority, HI-LYNKS Communication and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
Group B of the football competition will have International Maritime Hospital, University of Ghana Sports Directorate, Omega Foods and Beverages Limited and Volta River Authority battling for places in the next stage.
According to the competition’s regulations, the eight teams will compete in 10-minute games in a round-robin format to determine who advances to the next round.
Speaking at the draw, Yaw Sakyi Afari, Managing Director of RITE Sports, who are the organizers of the event, underlined the importance of fairness in the competition.
He appealed to the participating companies to present their personnel and not engage in the services of professional footballers and athletes.
Yaw Sakyi revealed that the purpose of the competition is to ensure a balance between office duties and fitness requirements.
He believes the Platinum Cup serves as an opportunity to remind corporate workers of the importance of exercise and staying fit.
“We are thrilled to announce the return of the Platinum Cup,” he said.
“After a period of waiting, we are ready to reignite the spirit of competition and camaraderie that defines this event. The Platinum Cup is more than a fun tournament for corporate institutions, it is an opportunity for teams to come together, challenge the themselves and create lasting memories,” explained Sakyi.
The various companies and organizations promised to compete fairly and also give their best to make the event a grand success.
Other games scheduled for the event to be held at the University of Ghana’s Sarbah Stadium are table tennis, a 100m race, drafts, cards, CEOs penalty shootout and the women’s penalty shootout.
