Kennedy Agyapong, Assin Central MP
Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong has praised his friend George Oti Bonsu for his resilience after the demolition of the Ajilinganor property complex by the family of Second Lady Samira Bawumia.
Speaking at Oti Bonsu’s 65th birthday celebrations, Mr Agyapong praised his friend’s courage and calm throughout the ordeal.
He said if he were in Oti Bonsu’s situation, he probably would have succumbed to the stress involved and sought medical attention.
“If you want to find brave men in Ghana, it’s not me, it’s Kennedy Agyapong. If my building had been demolished, I would be in Korle Bu Hospital by now.
“But last time, he (Oti Bonsu) asked me about the funeral arrangements for Kwabena Kwakye and offered to give him GH₵70,000 to help with that.
“He’s a strong man. If you compare what he’s doing and what happened to him in the last month, this is what we call courage, and I’m just sitting in front of the radio talking. It’s not like us.
“If it were my 10 buildings that were demolished, to be honest, I would still be in Korle Bou,” he said.
Oti Bonsu’s road to recovery has been marked by his past struggles, as detailed by Mr. Agyapong: “He had suffered before, selling furniture out of his car. , went to Holland to earn a living.
“He didn’t know anyone there and unfortunately couldn’t find a place to sleep, so he went to a shelter.
“And when he came back, he had built a house for himself, but the ‘state owners’ demolished it,” he added.
It will be recalled that George Oti Bonsu, a financier of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), revealed that he had demolished a property in Ajiriganoor, a suburb of Accra, due to a land dispute involving the family of Samira Bawumia. Dew.
Speaking at a press conference from the demolition site in the first week of April, Bonsu expressed regret that his investment had been destroyed without justifiable reason and against a court order.
He attributed the problem to the fact that the people he was in court had close ties to the corridors of power.
He noted that he had reached out to the Ramadan family who are disputing ownership of the land, adding that unfortunately his efforts were ignored.
“This could have happened to anyone, and the National Security Agency has yet to hold the vandals accountable. I took all necessary steps, but the power of power had its consequences.” he lamented.
Oti Bonsu claimed that he had legally purchased the land from three families who were the legal custodians of the land.
He requested the other party to produce proof of similar ownership.
The demolition was reported in a social media post by Ken Agyapong’s son, who shared a video with the caption: “When power goes to the heads of the people. The system is not working.”
He tagged the president and vice president in an April 7, 2024 post.
