In a recent lecture on the political situation in Ghana, political scientist Dr. Amakie Boateng said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is witnessing an alarming decline in its influence within the Ashanti region. Analysis was carried out.
Dr Boateng attributed this decline to the party’s failure to make wise and strategic decisions during its eight-year term, as well as indecisiveness in selecting regional vice-presidential candidates. He said that
Dr Boateng said the Ashanti region, once a stronghold for the NPP, is now showing signs of declining support and the current political climate is not good for the party, especially in its desire to extend its rule to other countries. He emphasized that this was not an omen. His two conventional terms.
“The NPP is no longer strong in the Ashanti region. The current situation is not in their favor. I believe they will break through eight countries, but I don’t think that will happen. “Did you do that?” he asked.
Dr Boateng advocated a strategic move by the NPP and its flag bearer Mahamudu Bawumia, suggesting that selecting a vice-presidential candidate from the Ashanti region could rejuvenate the party’s standing. He stressed the importance of regionalism in governance and called on the party to demonstrate its commitment to the Ashanti people.
“There is a sentiment in the Ashanti region that questions the influence of the party in the region, and if the vice-presidential candidate is not from the Ashanti region, it will cause chaos. They will know that they matter in governance and that their opinions are respected,” Dr Boateng asserted, stressing the need for inclusivity in political decision-making.
Citing concerns over Mahamudu Bawumia’s shift in focus from the economy to digitalisation, Dr Boateng expressed concern about the move. He argued that the transition was having a negative impact on Bawumia’s credibility, especially given the country’s escalating debt crisis.
“Bawumia’s move away from the economy and towards digitalization has raised eyebrows as the country faces a high debt burden,” Dr Boateng said, adding that addressing economic challenges head-on is not an option. emphasized that it is essential.
