Minister of Health, Cecilia Dapar;
The group, which also includes outspoken anti-corruption campaigner Martin Kpebu, security analyst Dr Adam Bona, political science professor Lunsford Gyampo and more than 100 other Ghanaians from various walks of life, said: , argues that EOCO has more than sufficient grounds to investigate the former. The Minister for Money Laundering has been inconsistent and has failed to reveal the source of large sums of money seized at his home by the Office of Special Prosecution (OSP).
The petition, submitted to Parliament on Thursday, May 16, 2024, specifically notes that “the failure to account for the source of funds should have been the basis of the investigation.”
It also raised concerns about what the group said was EOCO’s deliberate refusal to take steps to protect funds OSP seized from the former minister’s residence.
“After receiving the documents, EOCO did not take timely action to seize the money that OSP was scheduled to return to Mrs. Cecilia Dapa, as OSP has publicly stated.”
The petition also said EOCO was inconsistent with public comments and actions in the investigation.
The incident came in the wake of a standoff between national anti-corruption agencies investigating the former minister over where the money was hidden.
OSP is on record as saying EOCO had no desire to investigate the matter, despite sharing detailed information with the agency.
