The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that Attorney-General Godfred Dame is orchestrating rigging in the ongoing trial of its Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
These accusations were revealed in a press statement issued by the party on Wednesday, May 23rd.
This comes after the third defendant in the ambulance purchase trial, Mr Richard Jakpa, alleged that the Attorney-General had earlier asked him to assist in preparing a case against the Minority Leader and former Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
“The Attorney General has employed me at irregular hours on several occasions to file cases against A1 and I have the proof. If he presses me, it will open Pandora’s box. I do not understand why the Attorney General is accusing me of defending A1 when I am here to defend myself,” Jakpa told the court.
“If he corners me, I will be opening Pandora’s box. I have proof of this,” he added on Thursday, May 23.
The NDC expressed concern over what it sees as a clear case of persecution against Dr. Forson, a prominent opponent of the policies of the current administration.
In a press release signed by its Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC believes the incident confirms its “legitimate and long-standing suspicions about the corrupt tactics of Godfred Dame and the government he represents.”
“The NDC is deeply outraged by this apparent case of persecution against a leader of its parliamentary caucus who has been at the forefront of the struggle against the bad governance of the repressive and dictatorial Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP regime,” the statement said.
The NDC statement criticised the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, accusing it of lacking integrity and perverting the course of justice.
“This shows how desperate the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP administration will go to manipulate the judicial process to unjustly victimise its political opponents to gain easy political goals.”
Nketiah added: “This confirms the lack of integrity of the disgraced Attorney General and the lengths he is going to to pervert the course of justice.”
The party held a press conference to announce its intention to present evidence to back up its claims.
