Asia’s richest tycoon Mukesh Ambani is making inroads into Ghana’s telecoms sector with Next-Gen InfraCo (NGIC), aiming to capitalize on the fast-growing mobile broadband market.
NGIC, led by Reliance Industries Ltd. subsidiary Radisys Corp., plans to introduce 5G broadband services in Ghana later this year. Backed by industry leaders such as Nokia, Tech Mahindra and Microsoft, NGIC is set to provide affordable digital services to emerging markets, leveraging Ghana’s growing telecommunications industry. Partnerships with local agencies such as Ascend Digital Solutions Ltd. and K-NET, along with support from the Government of Ghana, strengthen NGIC’s market presence.
NGIC has secured exclusive rights to offer 5G services in Ghana for the next decade, in line with the country’s ambition to achieve nationwide digital connectivity within six years. With a major investment of $145 million over three years, NGIC aims to replicate the success of Jio Infocomm Ltd. Ambani in India. Ghana, with a population of over 33 million, offers a promising market for NGIC due to the growing demand for cost-effective mobile broadband services.
