In a dramatic turn of events, Jakpa alleges in his affidavit that Attorney General Godfred Dame met with him on multiple occasions during which Dame vouched for his innocence and ultimately secured his acquittal.
Jakpa claims that Dame confided in him that his joining the prosecution was a pretense to hide the true aims of the trial.
Jakpa alleged that the real motive behind the trial was political pressure from President Nana Akufo-Addo and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to Jakpa, the pressure was applied to persecute the then Finance Executive, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who is now Minority Leader.
Jakpa is seeking permission from the court to testify about those communications and to be cross-examined on the matter.
“This Court is mindful that an application has been filed by Advocate THADDEUS SORY of MESSRS SORY @ LAW, acting on behalf of the Third Defendant/Applicant, seeking an order from this Court either i. to strike out the charges and terminate the proceedings against the Third Defendant/Applicant or ii. to stay the proceedings in Court against the Third Defendant/Applicant.”
This development adds a major complication to the ongoing ambulance saga that has already attracted public and media attention.
The court’s decision on this application will have significant implications for the defendants and the wider political landscape.
