A section of the Accra-Winneba Expressway along Gomoa Okyereko reportedly collapsed on Thursday, June 6, 2024, after contractors changed the course of the nearby Ayensu River.
The extent of the damage to the road became more apparent as the river waters that had covered it receded.

Not only were parts of the road cut off, but the sand and gravel underneath some sections had been washed away, leaving the top part of the road hanging down.
Personnel from the Ghana Constabulary Service and other officials were present at the scene of the incident.
Earlier, GhanaWeb reported that part of the Accra-Winneba Expressway had collapsed, rendering it impassable.
